Welcome to the online home of Atlantic Rail Tours! We’re excited to announce our latest private rail car trip, The Tidewater Limited to Williamsburg, Virginia on March 30th. We’ll be traveling along the famed route of the George Washington and Silver Meteor aboard two beautifully restored private railcars, the PRR’s Braddock Inn, and New York Central’s NYC lounge car 38.
We’ll travel from historic Washington Union Station, one of America’s great architectural triumphs, behind Amtrak’s Train No. 65, The Northeast Regional, to Williamsburg, Virginia. The train departs at 7:00am, but make sure you arrive early- there will be plenty of time to acclimate yourself to the cars and snap a few photos before departure.
En route, breakfast will be served, as well as snacks. Enjoy stunning views from both sides of the train, as you circulate between both cars, make friends, and enjoy the trip, which will take approximately 3 1/2 hours.
Once in Williamsburg, you’ll be able to de-train and enjoy the sights of this historic city, which is one of the reasons we chose this fantastic place as our destination. We’re more than happy to assist you in planning your time on the ground between trains, and our professional staff are well-versed in the best of what the area has to offer- just ask!
The return trip to Washington boards at 5:40pm, arriving back in DC around 9:20. Enjoy unwinding with a meal, more snacks and soft drinks as you’re whisked back to our nation’s capitol.
This trip will feature two historic rail cars, both owned by the CP Huntington Chapter of the NRHS. The Braddock Inn, recently repainted by CSX to its former Pennsylvania Railroad livery, is a twenty-seat lounge car, complete with a kitchen, lounge space, and plenty of seating. The second car, NYC 38, has massive picture windows, plush seating, and is a great car to sit back, and take in the scenery. Both cars have quite the historic pedigree, while also remaining comfortable and spacious- in other words, they’re the perfect cars for a trip like this!
